BOWLED OVER

My children love bowling, which is the inspiration behind our newly updated Sight Word game.

Build the triangle bowling pins by cutting them out, folding and taping them together.
Line them up and let  your little ones bowl them over with table tennis balls.  When they knock the pins over, they get a chance to score points by reading the Sight Words on the two-sided triangle pins.

ALL ABOARD!

My nephew loves trains. He loves his toy trains, he loves riding in trains, he loves stories about trains and he especially loves Thomas the train. So this is the inspiration behind "All Aboard!"

Load up the carriages with Sight Words you can read and then the train is ready to leave the station!
Put the Mania Word Cards in a pile and as your child reads each word, he can load it onto a carriage. If he doesn't know the word, put it to the side for practicing later
Each row on the carriages has room for 4 word cards, and there are 2 different carriage sizes. The 3-storey carriages have room for 12 words, and the 2-storey carriages have room for 8.

Start with the small carriages, and when your child can read more than 12 Sight Words, you can add the  larger carriages to the train. Mix and match carriage sizes as you like.

The kids also have fun choosing different colored carriages and putting the train together themselves. And when the train is full of Sight Words, we line up with hands on the shoulders of the person in front, and we chug around the room to celebrate!

READY. SET. READ!

Each Sight Word Mania story introduces 12 new Sight Words.  I've purposely kept the number small so that my students can start reading a real story very soon after learning a few words. But they still need to know those 12 words before starting the story.

Not being a fan of just reading flash cards, I created the game Ready-Set-Read! Children love to race, and race cars are not just for boys - my girls love this game too.

Select the track for the book your child is learning to read. Read through the words and have them repeat the words after you. Point at random words on the game board to quiz them on how well they recognize the words. Once they recognize at least half of them, you're ready to play. They will learn the rest of the words as they play the game. Game instructions are included with the download.

There's a different race track for each Sight Word Mania story, so you can use this game to learn over 100 Sight Words.

Just for fun, race backwards too - from Finish to Start. That brings a lot of giggles from my kids, but I do it to make sure they are recognizing the words and not just memorizing the word order.

My SIGHT WORD HOUSE

My Sight Word House is another way to practice the Sight Words without just reading flash cards. The goal it to build a Sight Word House by placing Mania Word Card on each window, two on the roof and one on the door.
Picture
The special House Dice shows  where to place your Mania Word Card.

Players pick a Word Card from the pile. If they can read the Sight Word on the Word Card, they can place the Word Card on the door, window or roof of their House Game Board, as shown by the dice.
And to make it even more exciting, there is a chance to steal Word Cards from other players!
This game is so much fun, students forget that they are practicing Sight Words and want to play it again and again. Use Mania Word Cards for the Sight Words your students are finding difficult to remember, and pretty soon, they won't be finding them difficult any more!
