Celebrating Reading Progress

Learning to read can be hard work, but we try to make it as much fun as possible with our videos and games. After your child has put in all that hard work, here are some ideas to celebrate their progress and keep them motivated.

1. A Reading Party

Invite aunts, uncles and grandparents to a reading party. Send out invitations and decorate the "reading chair" for your child to sit in. When she has read a story to her audience, applaud enthusiastically and ask for another story!

2. Upside Down Story Time

Have your child read a bed time story to you! Allow him to pick stories he can read without your help, and read one or two of them to you. Let him know how much better you will sleep after such a delightful story time. (You don't have to go to sleep straight afterwards though :)

3. Make A Video

Make a video of your child reading a story. Let her know you are going to share it with her grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. You can even post it on YouTube and encourage all your relatives to post encouraging comments.

4. A Goodie Bag

Put together a small goodie bag for when your child can read the whole book unaided. Fill it with treats like a book mark, pencils, crayons and things special to your child. Present it to him when he can read a whole book unaided.

5. A Games Night

One weekend evening, allow your child to stay up a little later and play reading games. There are a bunch of them on the Activities page. Pick the ones your child likes best and have fun playing them. It's even more fun for your child if he wins most of the games!

I create board games, activities and books to teach my preschoolers to read. The children enjoy them so much that I am sharing them with everyone :)
